Biography

Dwight Lyman Moody was born in Massachusetts in 1837. Moody started as a shoe salesman but turned his attention and energies to sharing the gospel when a Sunday school teacher shared the love of God. Union Troops were part of his first preaching audience. Moody was able to reach many people through his association with the YMCA. He also preached the Gospel in England, Scotland, and other nations. Two of his most lasting legacies are the Chicago Avenue Church (Moody Church) and the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. His application of revivalism to the specific traits of city churches has been an effective outreach. Moody died the day after Christmas in 1899.
