George Salmon

Biography
George Salmon was born on September 25, 1819. Salmon split his life's work between mathematics and theology. While attending Trinity College, he received a fellowship and a math teacher position. Within the church, Salmon was an ordained deacon and priest. He wrote a mathematics textbook and earned several honorary degrees in mathematics. Salmon devoted his studies and writings to theology for the last forty years of his life. He specifically wrote against the infallibility of the Pope and the church. His"free time" was spent reading or playing Chess. However, chess was more than just a hobby for Salmon as he played against the best players and used chess references in his works. He worked at Trinity College right up to his death. Salmon died on January 22, 1904.Wailand Groenendyk
