Biography

Born in 1823, John James Stewart Perowne was an English Anglican bishop. He would also serve as general editor of the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges. Other works of note are his Commentary on the book of Psalms and A Life of Bishop Thrilwall. Perowne was known for his knowledge of Hebrew and theology. Under Perowne, modernist within the church were given a voice even those who questioned the virgin birth of Christ and His resurrection. Besides being an Bishop, author, and editor, Preowne was a Hulsean lecturer at the University of Cambridge. J.J.S. Perowne died on November 6, 1904.
