Open Letter on Translating

An Open Letter on Translating (1530) was written by Martin Luther after he translated the New Testament into German. From the tone and content of the letter, it is apparent that Luther was being criticized for his translation. He makes it quite clear that he feels those leveling the criticisms are unqualified to evaluate his work. In fact, he refers to them as"donkeys." This defense of his translation is an interesting read, showing a side of Luther not usually associated with his Reformation writings and theology.
