Biography

John Julian was passionate about church music. He was not only a member of the clergy in the Church of England but also an author and editor. Perhaps his best-known work is A Dictionary of Hymnology, the"go-to" resource for hymn information for over 100 years. Durham University and Howard University each awarded Julian honorary degrees. Julian wrote Concerning Hymns (1874) and Carols, Ancient and Modern (1900). Julian lived from 1839 to 1913.
