Biography

John Hus was born in Bohemia around the year 1370. Known as a “reformer,” Hus led the church out of its medieval bindings into the Reformation era. He also guided through the Western Schism period but not without controversy. The Council of Constance met to hear Hus’ defense for his “heretical” views, especially his dispute over the sale of indulgences. The council convicted Hus of heresy and burned him at the stake in 1415. The followers of Hus preserved many of his teachings, writings, and reforming actions.
