Samuel Hopkins studied under Jonathan Edwards, and became his official biographer as well as the executor of his papers. Greatly influenced by Edwards's thought, Hopkins took it upon himself to carry on his mentor's legacy. Serving as a Congregationalist minister in Newport, Rhode Island, Hopkins delivered and published many sermons, a good portion of them dedicated to topics of interest in Edwards,s theology. These twenty-one sermons cover such diverse subjects as hope, friendship, work, divine providence, and the necessity of personal piety.
