What is Darwinism?

by Charles Hodge

What is Darwinism (1874) by Charles Hodge is well laid out discussion of Darwinism. He begins with “THE” question and that is what Darwinism is. Hodge recognizes that different belief systems have different theories regarding the universe. Scriptural, Epicurean, Hylozoic, Pantheistic theories among others are compared to Darwinism. Hodge presents arguments for Darwinism by “advocates” such as Dr. Buchner and Prof. Haeckel. Then the other side is presented by opponents including Rev. Walter Mitchell and the Duke of Argyll. Hodge ends this work with a comparison of Darwinism to Religion.
