Biography

German-born Theodore Brown Hewitt was a professor of German at Yale and Williams College. His final role as a professor was at the University of Buffalo in New York. The German language is the topic of several of Hewitt’s books. He published German for the American Soldier and A Short Course in Practical German Composition. Hewitt wrote a dissertation on hymn-writer Paul Gerhardt and his influence on English hymnody. Hewitt lived from 1881 to 1952.
