Biography

As a graduate of Yale, Eureka, and the University of Chicago, Winfred Ernest Garrison earned several degrees. Until his health began to fail, he led Butler University as its President. He moved westward, taking on leadership roles in New Mexico both in politics and education. Eventually, Garrison moved back to the Midwest and became a professor at the University of Chicago. He also edited Christian Century magazine. Not one to settle into a long retirement, Garrison taught at the University of Huston well into his 80s. Author of several books and song lyrics, Garrison died at the age of 94 in 1969.
