Biography

Francis Borgia was born in Spain. From the time he was a child, he wanted to be a monk; however, his family sent him on campaigns with the emperor. He was given the title of the Duke of Gandia, but when his wife died, he gave up his title and entered the priesthood in the Society of Jesus. Later in life, he was named"Father General" in the Jesuit commissary in Spain. He became an advisor to political and religious leaders. He was the founder of several colleges, including Gregorian University. So pious and humble was Brogia that he was declared a Saint even before he died in 1572.
