H. E. Fosdick
American Baptist divine
Biography
Before there was Billy Graham, there was Harry Emerson Fosdick. Author of many books and sermons, Fosdick was also well known for his radio broadcasts in the early part of the twentieth century. He even made the cover of Time magazine in 1930. A Baptist by education and background, Fosdick pastored an ecumenical church and joined the United Church of Christ. Fosdick was outspoken against racism and Zionism. He was equally passionate about ecumenicalism. His acceptance of theistic evolution and rejection of creationism ruffled a few feathers in the church circles. Leaving behind a large legacy of books and teachings, Fosdick died in 1969.Wailand Groenendyk
