Biography

Samuel Rolles (S.R.) Driver was born in England in 1846. He spent most of his life in scholarly study of the Hebrew language and the Old Testament. He wrote commentaries on many Old Testament books including Amos, Genesis, Daniel, Jeremiah, Job, and Leviticus. Recognition of his scholarly accomplishments came in the form of scholarships, honorary degrees, and opportunities to do such things as serve on the Old Testament Revision Committee and work with others in producing the BDB Lexicon of the Old Testament. Driver held various positions such as professor of Hebrew and canon of Christ Church in Oxford, England. Driver died in 1914.
