Biography

Frederick Dillistone held many titles throughout his 90 years of life. Born in 1903 in England he attended Brighton and Brasenose Colleges and was ordained in 1928. Dean, tutor, professor, Chancellor, Fellow, and Chaplain are just some of the positions Dillistone held. In addition to his interaction with students and congregants, he authored several books. Many of these books explain symbols and their significance. Christianity and Symbolism, The Significance of the Cross, Myth, and Symbol, and The Power of Symbols in Religion and Culture are just some of Dillistone’s works. Not only did Dillistone write books but at least five books have been written about Dillistone’s work such as The Theology of Frederick William Dillistone by Hugh P. Lawrence. Dillistone died in 1993 having had more than 70 works published.
