Biography

René Descartes greatly influenced the development of philosophy and mathematical principles. Born in France in 1596, Descartes was a respected scholar who applied physics to the wonders of nature around him. He also delved into the mind of man, leading to his famous;"I think, therefore I am" statement, but he said it in Latin, of course. Descartes offered"proof" of God's existence in his philosophical way. The legacy left by Descartes upon his death in 1650 would and does fill volumes of books. One would be hard-pressed to take a mathematics, philosophy, or theology class without the mention of Descartes.
