Oliver Cromwell
Lord Protector of the English Commonwealth
Biography
Oliver Cromwell was a fighter both literally and figuratively throughout his lifetime. Probably best known for his role in English politics and his interactions with Parliament and the monarchy. Cromwell considered himself a Puritan and had little trust in the leadership of the Church of England. Cromwell had a lengthy career in England's military as he rose through the ranks and led several battles. When it came to the church, Cromwell was convinced congregations should choose their pastor and rituals, and the episcopacy was given too much importance. He supported the idea of common people directly praying to God and supported many protestant ministers from his wealth. Cromwell was born in Huntingdon, England, in 1599 and died in London in 1658.Wailand Groenendyk
