Biography

John Mildred (J.M.) Creed was a native of England, born in 1842. Upon completing a medical apprenticeship, Creed went on to earn a medical degree from Edinburgh and University College. He was passionate about vaccines and sobriety. Not only did he set up medical practices but also served in the legislative assembly in Australia. The Australasian Medical Gazette was edited by Creed for more than ten years. Creed was an advocate for the use of hypnosis as a treatment particularly to maintain sobriety. Creed worked for social justice and anti-racist causes. Creed’s work, My Recollections of Australia and Elsewhere, 1842-1914 was published in 1916. Creed died on October 30, 1930, in North Sydney. He was married twice and had one daughter.
