Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion

by Church of England

Summary

The Thirty-nine Articles of Religion is a statement of the beliefs of the Church of England. The English Reformation led to the church's attempt to delineate its doctrinal beliefs and practices. Between 1536 and 1571, the Church started with ten articles and concluded with the 39 found in this book. As with any process, the development of these articles was subject to much debate and discussion. The ripple effect, of course, was to create a"common language" of religion and to be the"definition" of a particular religion.
