Institutio Christianae Religionis Volume 1 is John Calvin's answer to attacks and questions aimed at the beliefs and practices of the Reformation. In this work, Calvin makes a defense of his faith and the doctrinal truths as expressed through the biblical teachings of the various reformers. The original Latin version was published in 1559. A year later, it was published in French. Calvin's thorough approach to laying out the need for and the implementation of reform in the Church has been a textbook for students of theology for centuries.
