Biography

Emil Brunner was born just outside of Zurich in 1889. His education would include the University of Zürich and the University of Berlin. As an ordained pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church, he was an influential voice in the Neo-Orthodoxy movement along with Karl Barth. For many years, Brunner was a professor at the University of Zürich. He also was in demand as a lecturer, not only in Europe but also in Asia and North America. His lectures were published as The Theology of Crisis. He also published a series of books on Dogmatics, which includes The Christian Doctrine of Creation and Redemption, The Christian Doctrine of the Church, Faith, and Consummation, and The Christian Doctrine of God. Brunner died in 1966 after suffering several strokes.
