Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Lutheran pastor
Biography
Dietrich Bonhoeffer is a name recognized in most Christian circles. Born in Germany in 1906, Bonhoeffer was an outspoken champion of ecumenism and a protestant theologian. One issue Bonhoeffer dealt with was the acceptance of Jews who became Christians. He believed these Jews should have the same rights as other Christians. Not all church leaders agreed with him. Following in his father's footsteps, Bonhoeffer protested Hitler's regime. He was part of a plot to kill Hitler, for which he was arrested and later hanged in 1943. Bonhoeffer's legacy includes his Letters and Papers from Prison and Christian Ethics.Wailand Groenendyk
