This is Volume I of the two volumes that make up the History of the Rise of the Huguenots that was written by Henry M. Baird. This work is divided into twelve chapters. Chapter 1 sets the stage for the era of the Huguenots, giving the political and religious context of the sixteenth century—chapters 2 through 12 lead the reader through the years 1512 to 1562. The"Contents" pages list many of the topics or events contained in each chapter, making it easy to locate a particular French King's influence or event to research or read about. The New York Tribune's extensive review (1879) of this book is included in the opening pages of this volume.
