Second Helvetic Confession
by Anonymous
Summary
In 1562, Bullinger wrote the Second Helvetic Confession and revised it in 1564. The majority of churches in Switzerland adopted this longer common confession and more Calvinistic version as compared to the First Helvetic Confession. Frederick III had it translated into German. Churches in Hungary, Poland, France, and churches from other countries adopted the Confession also. The one issue that was somewhat controversial is Bullinger's view of Mary,"ever virgin" and whose"most holy body was carried to heaven by angels." Of course, Calvin would not elevate Mary to a place of being prayed to.
