Apostles' Creed

by Anonymous

Summary

Factions, heresies, and needs led to the writing of the Apostles Creed. Who wrote it? That is unknown. But"the church" saw a need to write down the basic tenets of the Christian faith. A guide to guard against heretical teachings such as Jesus was not God's son. A guide to give the growing number of house churches a statement of why they meet and what they believe in common. A guide for new Christians to be able to articulate the truth they had come to embrace. The creed is based on Biblical teachings taught by Jesus, the apostles, the apostolic fathers, and the church fathers. The creed was developed throughout the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
