Biography

Born in 1834, Marcus Dods would become a pastor in the Free Church of Scotland but not before being rejected by nearly two dozen other churches. Educated at Edinburgh Academy and Edinburgh University, in addition to being a minister, his career would include being a principal, a professor and an author. Some of his writings and teachings were controversial and led to mounting a defense before the General Assembly. His commentaries on Genesis and I Corinthians are part of the Expositor’s Bible. His list of other works is extensive. Besides writing original works, he edited and translated other works. Dods died on April 26, 1909.
