Heinrich Albert

Albert especially was a very distinguished musician, [organist of the cathedral at Königsberg,] and he was the author both of the words and the flowing melody of that morning hymn,

"God, who madest earth and heaven,"2323"Gott des Himmels und der Erden."

which is still not infrequently played at early morning in some of the quiet little German country towns or baths. He composed airs to many of Dach's poems, and thus helped much in their rapid diffusion among the people; and the little band of friends often assembled in a garden he had purchased 185 outside Königsberg to hear some new poem or melody in the summer-house.
