XIV. THE PRO-LITURGY SERVICE,

CALLED,

THE TYPICA.

This Service is said either in the Great Fasts, when the Hours are conjoined with the Vespers or with the Liturgy of the Presanctified, or it is said on ordinary days when for some reason there is no celebration of the Liturgy. In the former instance, it serveth as a transition from the Morning to the Evening Service, and in the latter, it is a Service in itself instead of the prayers and hymns of the Liturgy.

These two uses are indicated as followeth.
