Mackay, Margaret, the daughter of Capt. Robert Mackay, was born at Inverness, Scotland, in 1802. In 1820 she was married to Col. William Mackay, a distinguished officer in the English army. She died January 5, 1887. Her Thoughts Redeemed; or, Lays of Leisure Hours, 1854, contained seventy-two of her hymns and poems. Among her prose works, The Family at Heatherdale was most widely read.
