Jones, Edmund, an English Baptist minister, son of Rev. Philip Jones, was born in 1722 in Gloucestershire; educated at the Baptist College at Bristol; was ordained pastor of the Baptist Church at Exeter, Devonshire, in 1743; died April 15, 1765. The Church at Exeter, like many Baptist 419 Churches at that day, was opposed to "the service of song" in public worship, but it is not a matter of surprise that the author of so excellent a hymn as the following should have wrought a complete revolution in their sentiments regarding this feature of divine worship. in 1760 he published a volume titled Sacred Poems.
