It is in such a style of ignorance and wonder
that the Athenian orator describes the Arctic conquests of
Alexander, who never advanced beyond the shores of the Caspian.

pleaded at Athens, Olymp. cxii. 3 (before Christ 330), in
the autumn (Taylor, praefat. p. 370, etc.), about a year
after the battle of Arbela; and Alexander, in the pursuit of
Darius, was marching towards Hyrcania and Bactriana.
