What does God require in the fourth commandment?

First, that the ministry of the gospel and the schools be maintained;²⁹¹²⁹¹    Tit. 1:5; 2 Tim. 3:14, 15; 1 Tim. 5:17; 1 Cor. 9:11, 13, 14; 2 Tim. 2:2. and that I, especially on the sabbath, that is, on the day of rest, diligently frequent the church of God,²⁹²²⁹²    Ps. 40:10, 11; Ps. 68:27; Acts 2:42, 46. to hear his word,²⁹³²⁹³    1 Tim. 4:13, 16; 1 Cor. 14:29, 31. to use the sacraments,²⁹⁴²⁹⁴    1 Cor. 11:33. publicly to call upon the Lord,²⁹⁵²⁹⁵    1 Tim. 2:1–3, 8–11; 1 Cor. 14:16. and contribute to the relief of the poor.²⁹⁶²⁹⁶    1 Cor. 16:2. Secondly, that all the days of my life I cease from my evil works, and yield myself to the Lord, to work by his Holy Spirit in me: and thus begin in this life the eternal sabbath.²⁹⁷²⁹⁷    Isa. 66:23.
